Xiaomi announced its first robot dog, the CyberDog

This robot dog is called ‘CyberDog’, and it does remind us of the Boston Dynamic’ Spot. Xiaomi defines this product as an “open source quadruped robot companion”. This is Xiaomi’s very first foray into quadruped robotics for the open source community and developers. This robot dog features Xiaomi’s in-house developed servo motors. The company claims that the CyberDog offers great speed, agility, and a wide range of motion. It has a maximum torque output and rotation speed of 32N-m/220Rpm. It can conduct a range of high-speed movements up to 3.2m/s, and do some interesting tricks, such as backflips.

The CyberDog is based on the NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX platform

The CyberDog is based on the NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX platform. That is an AI supercomputer that comes with 384 CUDA Cores, 48 Tensor Cores, a 6 Carmel ARM CPU, and 2 deep learning acceleration engines. On top of that, it is equipped with 11 high-precision sensors. Including touch sensors, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, GPS modules, and more. Thanks to those, CyberDog can sense, analyze, and interact with the environment, says Xiaomi. The Intel RealSense D450 Depth module is also included here, and can be trained with its computer vision algorithm. Autonomous object tracking, SLAM, is also possible for CyberDog. It can analyze its surroundings in real-time.

You can use voice assistants to control it

The CyberDog can follow its owner around without a problem. You can also use voice assistants to command and control CyberDog, or you can use a remote that comes with it, or an app. You’ll also find three Type-C ports on this robot dog, and 1 HDMI port. That should provide developers ease of access to basically improve what CyberDog can do. The CyberDog is built upon open-source algorithms. The CyberDog was released in 1,000 units only, and priced at CNY9,999 ($1,542) in China. We’re not sure if this robot dog will come to global markets, but chances are it won’t, at least not anytime soon.
