The app enables real-time two-way communication between two Galaxy Watch 4 wearables. Users can also create channels that allow multiple Galaxy Watch 4 owning friends or contacts to communicate simultaneously.

The app will only work on Wear OS running Samsung smartwatches, including the Galaxy Watch 4

As noted by SamMobile, the app is only compatible with Samsung’s Wear OS smartwatches, including the newly launched Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic. This means the walkie-talkie feature won’t work on non-Samsung Wear OS devices or even older Samsung wearables based on Tizen such as the Galaxy Watch 3. The app will require Galaxy Watch 4 series owners to have a Samsung account on their smartphone which is paired with the wearable. Fortunately, Samsung’s future Wear OS smartwatches are likely to be compatible with this newly released Walkie-Talkie application. Reports prior to the unveiling of the Galaxy Watch 4 indicated that the wearables could support the walkie-talkie feature. However, the feature was missing from the wearables at launch. Samsung is now making up for the delay by launching a standalone app on the Play Store. The Galaxy Watch 4 series broke cover amidst much speculation and hype less than two weeks ago. Both wearables run on the Wear OS 3 operating system with the Samsung One UI Watch interface. This new interface first broke cover in June this year. Both smartwatches come with 5ATM + IP68/MIL-STD-810G durability for protection against water and other elements. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is the top-end variant, whereas the Galaxy Watch 4 is the entry-level version. The Classic version gives you a choice between 42mm and 46mm options. Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy Watch 4 is available in 40 and 44mm options. In terms of durability, all variants of the Galaxy Watch 4 series utilize Corning’s Gorilla Glass with DX+. The standard Bluetooth-only variant of the Galaxy Watch 4 retails for $249, while the Watch 4 Active sells for $349. You can get LTE on either model, though Samsung will charge an additional $50.
