For starters, One UI 5.0 will bring subtle UI changes for a fresh, new look and feel. From reworked app icons, improved animations, and streamlined colors to notifications, call interface, and wallpapers, you’ll notice changes everywhere. You can set new wallpapers, including video wallpapers, directly from the lock screen. Stack widgets let you stack multiple widgets together for a cleaner homescreen while you’ll also get smart suggestions for widgets for a more deeply personalized experience. Optical character recognition (OCR) is another new feature of One UI 5. It lets you extract text from images and copy it to the clipboard. Your Galaxy phone will also recommend contextual actions for the copied content. For example, if a photo has a phone number, you can copy the number and place a call to it directly. Similarly, you can visit a website or write an email. A new Connected devices menu, meanwhile, will let you manage all the devices connected to your smartphone in one place. One UI 5 will also support Bixby Text Call in English. The feature is already available in Korean with One UI 4.1.1. It allows you to answer voice calls with text messages. Your phone will convert the incoming audio into text, while your text response is converted into audio, so the other person will still hear a voice response. This feature will be helpful in noisy environments or situations when you can’t speak. Samsung says the English support for Bixby Text Call will roll out in early 2023, so the initial One UI 5 release won’t offer it.

Samsung improved privacy and security features on One UI 5

The new One UI version also brings improvements to privacy and security features. Samsung has streamlined these settings to make it quick and easy for users to understand. They can check their device’s security status and find suggestions and warnings if there’s any potential threat. Additionally, Samsung will alert you if you accidentally share photos containing potentially sensitive information with others or on social media. Your phone can detect images of credit and debit cards, ID cards, and other documents containing personal information. “One UI 5 represents Samsung’s most personalized mobile experience yet, designed to give people greater options for tailoring their devices exactly how they’d like,” Samsung said. The big update will roll out to the Galaxy S22 series later this month. Other eligible devices will follow soon. We will keep you posted.
