We are already used to such issues, though the Pixel 4 and 5 series devices did not have as many as some previous models did. That being said, let’s take a story from Reddit as an example.

A rather odd bug is bricking Google Pixel 3 & 3 XL units

One Pixel 3 XL woke up to a black screen on his phone, while the phone was stuck in EDL mode. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s an emergency download mode, essentially. It’s a feature from Qualcomm that allows users to recover data from a device. Thanks to EDL mode, users can also unbrick a handset, or flash it with new software. Well, being in this mode means that you cannot tap the display, nor can you use physical buttons. In other words, if a regular user gets stuck here, well… there’s nothing that can be done. That Pixel 3 XL unit is basically bricked at this point.

This issue has been around since December last year

What’s even worse is that such reports date back to December last year. The last one actually arrived yesterday, reports Phone Arena. Some users blame updates for it, others say that it started happening on its own. Google’s employee did say that the issue has been “passed” to the development team, and that Google will respond in the near future. Let’s hope that will happen ASAP, as this issue has been around for quite some time now. It is a bit worrisome that Google didn’t respond sooner to the issue. This should have been fixed a long time ago, as it seems like it’s affecting quite a few Pixel 3 and 3 XL users.
