Google is investigating Pixel 5a thermal problems, after quite a few complaints
Consumers started complaining as the device seems to have some thermal and touchscreen issues. The phone seems to be able to handle only a couple of minutes of 4K 60 FPS video before it starts overheating. After a couple of minutes of video recording, the device shows an overheating warning. To be completely accurate, this is what you get “Device is too hot. Close Camera until device cools off”. For some users, that warning pops up after 2-3 minutes, for others, it took around 5 minutes. The point is, the device cannot handle much video recording, it seems. The worse part is, this doesn’t happen only when you’re recording 4K at 60 FPS. Some users experienced the same issue while recording at 4K 30 FPS, and 1080P 30 FPS as well. Needless to say, this is a huge problem. For those of you who are wondering, no, the outdoor temperature doesn’t seem to affect this. Some users sat in air-conditioned rooms, and that didn’t help things at all.
Video recording is not the only action that causes thermal issues
These issues are not exclusive to video recording either. Some users are having thermal issues while taking pictures, playing games, and even browsing. In other words, the phone is having some serious thermal issues all around. As a reminder, these issues are not exclusive to the Pixel 5a. The Google Pixel 5 had similar issues, though it seems like those issues were not as pronounced. We’ll see what will Google say about this. Thermal issues are not the only problem, though. Some users seem to be experiencing ghost touches as well. That’s a problem with the touchscreen. Let’s hope this is all software-related, and not hardware-related. Also, let’s hope Google will sort things out quickly.
