It may be a small change, but small UI changes are sometimes really important. When it comes to downloads, that’s especially true. If you’re a person who downloads a lot of files for your work, you’d want the download UI to be relatively out of the way so that you can continue with your work unhindered.
Chrome’s new download UI is now more useful
This is why Chrome’s new download UI really comes in handy. First, let’s address the elephant in the room: if you’re a Microsoft Edge user, then you’ve seen this before. When you download a file, you’ll see a button appear on the top of the UI which will access the download itself. Clicking on the button will show you what’s downloading and its progress. It’ll summon a dropdown with that information. Now, a Reddit user’s post just showed us the latest version of this download button. When you’re downloading multiple files, you’ll see the list of your downloads. Along with those, you’ll also see individual download progress bars. This was definitely lifted from Microsoft Edge, we can’t deny it. Regardless, it’s a useful change. It really cleans up the download UI. Currently, when you download a file, a big bar will rise up from the bottom with your downloading file. It’s a bit unsightly, and it takes up more space than necessary. This new download UI will keep all of your files tucked, neatly, in a small button on the top of the interface. This was spotted in the latest Canary build of Google Chrome, so it’s not available to the general public just yet.
